More Ways To Attract New Clients For Your Business
In a previous post we suggested a number of new ways to expand your marketing and attract new clients for your design business. We got some great reactions and suggestions and have gathered together a few more for you here.
One simple way to attract new clients is by discounting your rates. Everyone loves a discount! Make sure your current price is clear, then offer 10%, 20% or even 50% off to all new clients. The great thing about this is that it will generate new customers that see the discount and want to jump on the deal. Do not discount your products or services so much that it will lose you money.
I like to run these types of promotions for two weeks. When new clients call asking about the discount after the two-week mark, I still extend the discount to them and make sure they know I am going above and beyond what the original deal was. Advertise the promotion on your website, in your email marketing, and on flyers and postcards (below).
Create simple postcards or flyers
Businesses have been using simple print collateral for years. Postcards and flyers are a great way to generate some hype in your local neighborhood or surrounding neighborhoods. Personally, I found a little print shop in Manhattan called Popular Printing and they print my shiny full color postcards and flyers for a fraction of the cost I would pay from other places. You need to find someone that will work with you and has good prices.
Create something that you would pick up if it were on the counter of a local shop. Of course, showcase your design talents in the flyer or postcard! Then try to place them in local businesses – shops of friends, your vendors, etc. If you create local interest it will help build your brand and more business will start coming your way. You can also send postcards out to people you meet in person if you get their card with their snail mail address on it – sending snail mail feels much less intrusive than adding a new contact to your email mailing list without their permission.
Connect with others at trade shows or seminars
Every industry has trade shows. Get out there and network. Meet other people in your industry, or people in the industries you do the most work for, and pass around business cards. You will be able to pick up new ideas to improve business. You will be able to meet others that have the ability to send work your way. You might even find some customers looking for you at these events.
Make the most of your time. Be outgoing and make friends. These friends are more than just friends, they are business contacts.
Expand the services you offer
Are there popular services or products that your competitor offers and you do not? If so, think about expanding your business to include these services or products. If you are not capable of providing them yourself you should think about bringing in someone who can. If your competitor saw that you offered something that they did not and they consider you competition, you better believe they will attempt to add another item to their repertoire!
Have your current clients recommend you
The biggest compliment any client can ever give me is to simply recommend me to another potential client. I always reward my customers with heavy discounts for referring new clients to me. They in turn refer more clients. The best type of advertisement is word of mouth. People trust other people more than they trust any type of advertising.
This might be the most difficult item to achieve on the list. When you do reach this point, you can pat yourself on the back because you are doing a great job. If you do not know how to make this happen, then you should improve your customer support. Seriously, go above and beyond time after time. Make sure you always follow through and complete your jobs in a timely manner.
The best ways to attract new clients for your business are to make them want to come to you. If you are passionate about bringing in new clients you will succeed. Offer amazing customer service and your customers will love you. Go out of your way to make all of your customers or potential customers happy.
